Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American politician, attorney, and the current vice president of United States. She is also the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female official in the United America. She is a member and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she became the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated healthcare reform, federal descholaring for cannabis, a path for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. She was well-known for her direct questioning of Trump government officials during Senate hearings.
